The Technical team from Ghana who forms part of the Joint Experts Committee on the Railway Interconnectivity Project between Ghana - Burkina-Faso, on Tuesday 9th January, 2018, held its preparatory meeting at the Ministry of Railways Development.
Discussions at the meeting was centered on the quick implementation of the railway interconnectivity project, to boost trade and development between the two neighboring countries.
Summary of the resolutions contained in a Communiqué released by the committee at their last meeting held in Accra which are to, revive the defunct Joint Experts Committee, develop an Action Plan and Timelines for implementation, define a strategy for mobilization of resources for implementation, agree on procedure for the appointment of a common Contractor for the project and design a Financial Model for the project, were all discussed at the preparatory meeting.
The Committee chaired by the Sector Minister, Hon. Joe Ghartey, has members from the Ministry of Railways Development, Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA), Ghana Railway Company Limited (GRCL), Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry Of Environment, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Office of the Attorney-General and the Ghana Shippers Authority.
The committee last met in Accra, from Monday, 18th to Friday 22nd December, 2017 , at a three day- meeting , Hon. Joe Ghartey and Hon. Suleymane Soulama from Ghana and Burkina- Faso respectively chaired the meeting.
The next Joint Experts Committee meeting is scheduled to take place in Ouagadougou from 15th to 17th January, 2018.
