AMA Demolishes Illegal Structures along Railway Lines in the Accra Metropolis

Hundreds of illegal make-shift structures along the railway lines within the Accra Metropolis, have been pulled down by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

The demolition exercise which started on Monday 8th January, 2018 saw the removal of all hawking activities on medians and pedestrian walk ways in the major and ceremonial streets of Accra.

The exercise supervised by the AMA taskforce, Police and Military personnel also demolished all illegal structures along the railway lines, from the Accra Central Railway Station, through Agbogbloshie-Accra Brewery enclave, Kwame Nkrumah Interchange –VIP Bus Terminal enclave to Achimota.

Meanwhile, the land is being reclaimed by the Ministry of Railways Development for the commencement of major rehabilitation of the narrow gauge from Accra to Achimota and Accra to Nsawam, part of the Eastern Line and the construction of the standard gauge Eastern Line which is all to commence this year.
